WEB GEMS- Bot 6th: Jeremy Affeldt robbed Torii Hunter of a base hit.
Jeremy Guthrie pitched 9 strong innings at Minute Maid Field where the
Brownsville Slingshots beat the Slippery Rock Flash 5 to 1.
Brownsville took the lead for good in the bottom of the 4th inning when they
scored 2 runs on 2 hits. The big moment was provided by Geovany Soto who
brought the crowd to their feet when he lifted one out of the park for a two
run home run (his 1st of the season). Brownsville had 12 hits for the night.
Guthrie(2-0) was the winner allowing 1 run for the game. The loss was charged
to Noah Lowry(0-1). He got hit pretty hard, allowing 9 hits and 2 walks in 5
and 1/3 innings.
Guthrie was obviously very pleased with his performance in the aftermath of
the game, 'It was just one of those games where everything worked. My arm
felt great, heck, I could have pitched another two or three innings. I only
hope that I can do it again next time out!'
